School District 8 Kootenay Lake launched the district wide Focus.Learn.Excel initiative to assist in improving achievement for students, including early learning to post-secondary. The Focus.Learn.Excel initiative concentrates on learning goals of the Board of Education’s Strategic Plan. These areas are addressed by the following:

• Improving Learning and Assessment
• Supporting Vulnerable Students
• Literacy and Numeracy
• Enhanced Student Supports

Staff engage in robust professional learning opportunities facilitated by renowned education professionals.  Staff also have opportunities to contribute to district Communities of Practice in several educational domains such as literacy, numeracy, and early learning.
