School District 8 – Kootenay Lake staff are taking steps to protect everyone's health in the face of the COVID-19 crisis. Many of our CUPE staff have been preparing behind the scenes for the return of our Principals and teachers.
Schools are cleaned thoroughly every school break, but as the District does its part in helping to slow the spread of COVID-19, a deep clean of all school sites is currently underway. This means all surfaces are washed - including desks, chairs, locker doors, locks, drinking fountains, washrooms, and door handles, and many other areas.
This work ensures all schools receive a detailed clean with recommended cleaning agents and procedures set by the District's health and safety department and in consultation with WorkSafe and provincial health guidelines.
"We are proud of all the hard work our CUPE members are doing during this challenging time. They are front-line workers and the work they are currently doing is essential to the health of all who enter our schools," says Superintendent Christine Perkins.
More than 150 CUPE staff district-wide are completing this work, which comprises of custodians, maintenance crews, and transportation - all busy ensuring schools and our buses are safe spaces.
During the pandemic, the government has stated that there will be in-class suspension of learning. To that end, our parents and students are being asked not to go to our buildings. Contact your Principal directly if there is something you need. Teachers will be in touch with all students and families during the coming weeks.
