School District website is accessible in multiple languages

The new School District 8 – Kootenay Lake website that launched a week before school started this fall is getting plenty of page views. As a way to further expand communication with parents, the website also includes a feature to connect with non-English speaking members of our community and farther abroad.

Google™ Translate is a free online language translation service that can translate text and web pages into different languages. The Google Translate feature is easy to use. The “Select Language” dropdown box in the top right-hand corner of the website enables users to choose a language.

“The Google translate feature on our website will enable parents and guardians from diverse cultures to benefit from the resources we have available online.” says Superintendent Dr. Christine Perkins.

Having the website accessible in several languages will also benefit incoming International students and their families seeking information about schools, activities and the Kootenay region.

As the primary language spoken in the District, all of the web pages are written in English. However with the help of Google™ Translate, website content can now be translated from English to the following languages, which have been identified as the primary ones spoken by the families of our students and are available from Google: English, Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Hindi, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Punjabi, Spanish, and Vietnamese.

If you wish to have a language added to the current list, please contact the School District.
