Special Update: COVID-19 from Ministry of Education

From the Ministry of Education:

"The Provincial Health Officer has provided updated guidelines for schools and childcare programs to help reduce the risk of transmission of respiratory illnesses including COVID-19. The guidelines include recommendations for school administrators regarding preventative practices and policies, communication to parents, supporting students and families who are self-isolating/monitoring, and steps to take if students or staff begin to experience symptoms while at school. The guidelines also provide information for staff on actions they can take to support students‘ social-emotional well-being, links to additional resources, and a list of disinfecting products. Please share these guidelines with your school communities.

The Provincial Health Officer and Minister of Health issued a joint statement yesterday regarding updates on COVID-19 in B.C. The statement includes updated guidance for all travellers returning to B.C., from any destination, to monitor themselves and their children closely for symptoms. The Provincial Health Officer also reiterates that the risk of spread of this virus within the province continues to remain low.

If district staff receive media inquiries, please notify the Ministry‘s Government Communications and Public Engagement team and they can provide support. Specific public health questions regarding COVID-19 should be directed to your local health authority for response.

Contact Scott Beddall, Director of Wellness and Safety, if you have any questions.
