Indigenous Education in School District 8 - Kootenay Lake is designed to support the success of all indigenous students. First Nations (staus and non-status), Metis, and Inuit students who wish to self-identify and participate in the program, are encouraged and welcome!
Designed in consultation with parents, guardians, Elders, students, staff and the traditional territories. Services may include Indigenous language and culture and/or academic support.
The framework for program development is base don the four goals of the Aboriginal Enhancement Agreement (AEA):
- Enhance the Indigenous student's sense of belonging, pride and identity.
- Improve the success of all Indigenous students.
- Improve connections between Indigenous students, families, communities and schools.
- Improve awareness of the history, culture, diversity and issues related to Indigenous students.
