SD8 is renewing its strategic plan and wants the public to share their ideas.
The plan will set the mission, vision, goals and priorities for the Board of Education and staff for the next five years from 2024 through 2029. The Board of Education invites anyone with an interest in education to share ideas, vote for ideas they like, ask questions, comment or complete a survey on their new engagement site, engage.sd8.bc.ca.

The School District No. 8 (Kootenay Lake) Board of Education elected their new chair and vice-chair at the inaugural board meeting held November 8 in Nelson. Lenora Trenaman has been relected chair, a title she has held consecutively since 2005 except for one year in 2014. Dawn Lang is serving her first term as vice-chair and has served as an SD8 trustee since 2008. Trustees elect a board chair and vice-chair annually, and school trustees are elected every four years.

The Board of Education is committed to positive, transparent, and accurate information sharing with the public. It has come to the attention of the Board of Education that Trustee Allan Gribbin is providing misleading information that does not reflect the values or goals of the Board of Education of School District No. 8 (Kootenay Lake) (SD8).
The following statements are intended to clarify any derogatory and misleading information provided by Trustee Allan Gribbin about SD8 and the Board of Education.
