Creston Education Centre

Creston Expression of Interest Bid Document (click here)

On July 12, 2016 the Board of Education approved its Long Range Facilities Plan. Included in the plan is the following:

Closing Creston Education Centre and moving integration support staff and boardroom to Prince Charles Secondary School, information technology to Creston Bus Garage, Wildflower to Adam Robertson Elementary School, Strong Start to Adam Robertson Elementary School and Homelinks to Adam Robertson Elementary School or Prince Charles Secondary School pending successful negotiations with community partners to transfer ownership or shift financial burden. If title or financial burden does not transfer from SD8 to a community partner by September 1, 2017, Creston Education Centre will close February 1, 2018 and programs will be moved as planned. If title or burden does transfer, further discussion will take place with regard to programs remaining at Central Education Centre or moving as planned.

The Board is carrying a significantly aged and challenging asset pool and desires to mitigate its capital and operating financial burden by downsizing its asset pool and right-sizing facilities to meet student need.

During the Spring 2016 school closure consultation process, families, staff, service providers and the public advocated for the maintenance of tenants and programs at Creston Education Centre. Tenants include community service providers informally known as “The Hub”. Programs include SD8 Wildflower and Homelinks programming along with integration support staff (speech therapists etc) and Strong Start.

The Board is canvassing potentially interested parties regarding selling the building and/or sharing the capital and operating financial burden of the Creston Education Centre (formerly South Creston Elementary School).
