Board of Education Unanimously Passes 2024-2025 Budget

- Budget focused on maintaining educational staff despite projected decline in enrolment

The School District No. 8 (Kootenay Lake) Board of Education unanimously approved the annual budget for the 2024-2025 school year at its public meeting on the evening of May 14.

An Appetite for Learning in SD8

School District No. 8 (Kootenay Lake) has delivered over 78 food hampers for students and families across seven school communities in the past two months, providing fresh fruit, vegetables, pastas, bread, yoghurt, meat and cheese from spring break through to May thanks to provincial funding from Feeding Futures.

SD8 Students Take Silver at B.C. Skills Competition

-Exceptional work from Salmo and Mount Sentinel Secondary students at regional and provincial competitions in trades and technology.

Salmo Superstars

Alanna Hango and Kiri Brewer are provincial silver medalists in 2D Animation after competing at the 2024 Skills Canada British Columbia Provincials held at the Abbotsford Trade and Exhibition Centre on April 17, 2024.

New Leadership at W.E. Graham School

School District No. 8 (Kootenay Lake) announced today that Principal Jennifer Kooznetsoff will be appointed as the Principal of W.E. Graham Community School in the Slocan Family of Schools beginning August 1, 2024.  

Principal Kooznetsoff currently leads Brent Kennedy Elementary School where she has served as principal since 2020. She has also served as vice-principal of Salmo Elementary School.

SD8 Welcomes New Director of Indigenous Education and Learning Services

School District No.8 (Kootenay Lake) is pleased to announce Laury Carrière as the new Director of Instruction – Indigenous Education and Learning Services effective August 1, 2024. This role replaces the previous District Principal of Aboriginal Education position and is part of the SD8 senior leadership team, underscoring the district’s commitment to reconciliation and Indigenization of the curriculum.

Emerging Student Artists Showcase Paintings at NDCC

There’s an exciting new art gallery in town, and it includes a swimming pool, skating rink and fitness area. L.V. Rogers Secondary School (LVR) art students are showcasing Atmospheric Ink Paintings at the Nelson and District Community Complex (NDCC) until April 4.
