November 20th was declared National Child Day by the Government of Canada to celebrate the rights of children after the United Nations adopted the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) on November 20, 1989.

Article 28 of the UNCRC recognizes "the right of the child to education."

Today, SD8 celebrates and recognizes the rights of the child.
