Lenora Trenaman Re-elected Board Chair and Dawn Lang Elected Vice-Chair

The School District No. 8 (Kootenay Lake) Board of Education elected their new chair and vice-chair at the inaugural board meeting held November 8 in Nelson. Lenora Trenaman has been relected chair, a title she has held consecutively since 2005 except for one year in 2014. Dawn Lang is serving her first term as vice-chair and has served as an SD8 trustee since 2008. Trustees elect a board chair and vice-chair annually, and school trustees are elected every four years.

Orange Shirts Mark National Day for Truth and Reconciliation

School District No. 8 (Kootenay Lake) turned orange this week, not just because fall has arrived, but because students and staff marked the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, and Orange Shirt Day, an Indigenous-led movement to honour residential school Survivors and their families and communities across Canada on September 30.

School Planning Day A Success in SD8 Schools!

School teams from Rosemont Elementary, South Nelson Elementary and across SD8 got together on Friday, September 23 for School Planning Day. In the past, school planning has happened in May.

Teachers, educational assistants and administrators met face to face to create and adjust their annual school learning plans. The fall planning session ensured educational teams are clear about the year’s school goals as they work together to continuously improve learning for every student.
