Inclusive Education - Safe and Sound
Occupational Therapy services has been offering the Safe and Sound Protocol program to select students in the district. The Safe and Sound Protocol is evidenced-based specially filtered music designed to reset the nervous system back to a feeling of safety. Also, October 6th was World Cerebral Palsy (CP) Day. Inclusive Education helped to coordinate a virtual presentation for Blewett Elementary School to celebrate individuals with CP. The presentation was hosted by the Rick Hansen Foundation and focus on diversity, equity and inclusion. The day also included a specifically designed inclusive PE game using the STEP approach, which involves considering the Space, Task, Equipment and People.
Innovative Learning - SD8 StrongStart Expands to South Nelson Elementary
StrongStart, a free Ministry of Education and Childcare program for pre-school children from infancy to five years old, has now expanded to include South Nelson Elementary School in School District No. 8 (Kootenay Lake).
