Board Chair since 2014, Lenora was first elected to the Kootenay Lake Board of Education in 2005 and is now serving her fourth term.
Born and raised in Creston, Lenora is married and has lived in the Balfour area for over 30 years. Lenora’s involvement in education started when her daughter, now a certified teacher, began kindergarten at Redfish Elementary School in 1998.
What at first began as an interest in her daughter’s education, quickly expanded to advocating for all students in the District as well as in the province. Lenora was an active member and representative of Parent Advisory Councils, the District Parent Advisory Council and the BC Confederation of PACs. Lenora became a trained student/parent advocate and workshop facilitator, providing these volunteer services to parents throughout the district and province.
Lenora’s passion has a steadfast focus to provide quality education to all children and to encourage community interest and participation in education.
Lenora contributes her perspective to Board and Board Committee discussions and decisions from experiences of participating on various committees and forums locally and provincially, including: Special Education, International Education and Transportation, French Advisory, Joint Safety advisory, Aboriginal Education, Kootenay Lake Teacher Federation Management, CUPE Labour Management, Regional Recreation Commission #10, the BC School Trustees Association, and BC Poverty Reduction Consultation and Funding Model Review.
